  20.      WASHINGTON -- Vice President Al Gore will travel to 
  21. Philadelphia, PA, Friday (6/25) for a day-long conference to 
  22. examine how the federal government can learn from cutting-edge 
  23. businesses and state and local governments that have incorporated 
  24. innovative management styles and new principles for production, 
  25. making them more effecitve and efficient and saving money in the 
  26. process.

  28.      The conference will be held at Congress Hall at Independence 
  29. Square Friday, June 25.

  31.      "The federal government can benefit from the experience of 
  32. business and industry officials and state and local leaders who 
  33. have found new ways to serve their customers better at less cost.  
  34. This conference is about seeing how the federal government can 
  35. learn from some of those success stories," the Vice President 
  36. said.

  38.      The Conference will bring together business leaders who have 
  39. brought innovative management practices to their companies to 
  40. increase profits and efficiency; leaders in state and local 
  41. government who have learned from business and applied similar 
  42. principles to make their governments work better; and national 
  43. experts in management and organization.

  45.      The Vice President is leading the National Performance 
  46. Review, an intensive, six-month study of the federal government 
  47. that will produce a report with specific recommendations for how 
  48. to streamline government, make it more effective and efficient, 
  49. serve its customers -- the American people -- better, and cost 
  50. less.  The Vice President has held meetings with industry and 
  51. government leaders in Washington, D.C. and across the country to 
  52. hear their suggestions and learn from those who have experienced 
  53. success with "reinvention."
